The gown was not originally designed but was a vision brought to life from a picture my mom admired of a young lady who wore a similar dress to her matric ball at a different school the previous year. We modified the design to make it my own, adding refined details and extending the train, the train can also be clipped off for ease of movement. The dress was beautifully crafted by Miss Alison, one of Cape Town’s most talented dressmakers, whose skill and attention to detail made the vision a beautiful reality.

Wat was die inspirasie agter jou matriekafskeidrok?

The inspiration was to bring to life a timeless and elegant gown that reflected both sophistication and individuality. Together with Miss Alison, we incorporated a few refined changes to make it uniquely mine. The train was extended to create a more graceful and dramatic silhouette. I chose the colour emerald green, as it complemented my eyes and represents my birthstone, a symbol of elegance, renewal, and inner strength.

Wat beteken jou matriekafskeidrok vir jou?

My dress is a symbol of the effort and hard work it took to reach this stage of my life. It also represents my mom, who has always been my greatest supporter, guiding me, believing in me, and encouraging me. For me, the dress is a celebration of my 12-year journey through school, marking the end of an important milestone and the beginning of the next chapter of my life.
