Wat was die inspirasie agter jou matriekafskeidrok?

I wanted to step completely out of my comfort zone for my matric dance. I have always preferred simple styles and plain colours, but this time I wanted to feel bold and confident, to really embrace the glitz and glamour of the occasion. The dress was a chance to show a different side of myself and celebrate the end of school.

My matric dance dress symbolises confidence, growth, and celebration. It’s a reminder that sometimes stepping outside your comfort zone can reveal a stronger, more confident version of yourself. It also reminds me of how special that evening felt, surrounded by friends and family, marking the end of one chapter and the start of something new.

The highlight of my matric farewell was having my little brother walk me in. I kept it a secret for weeks, which caused quite a stir among my friends who were all trying to guess who my date was. My brother is very special to me, and everyone who knows me knows how close we are. He completely stole the spotlight that night, he was so adorable, and it made the evening even more memorable. Sharing that moment with him is something I’ll never forget.

I originally planned to study teaching straight after matric, but I have decided to spend next year working as an au pair in the Netherlands. I am really excited to experience a new culture and gain some independence before returning home to start my studies.

"Geliefde" as its the closest to my own made-up word, "geliefels", which I say to my parents instead of “I love you”.
