At first, I had no idea what I wanted for my matric dance dress. I started shopping for dresses to buy or rent and I tried on different styles and took inspiration from what I liked. My dress was made with my designer's help, which started as a plain maroon dress, from where we decided to add hand-sewn floral lace to the train as well as the pearls on the straps creating the final look.

As a person who loves to dance, I wanted a dress with straps, and material that wouldn’t crease. I also wanted something unique. Trying on different dresses inspired me, as each dress had a feature that I liked. From there, I created my dress. Being fair-skinned, I chose a darker colour to complement my features.

Wat was jou gunsteling deel van jou matriekafskeidrok?

I loved every feature of my dress, from the elegant floral lace and pearl beading to the textured scrunches by my lower back as well as by my chest. The train was perfect, easily hooking up for dancing. I couldn't pick a favourite part. I loved it all.
