Kort verduideliking oor jou rok of ontwerpkeuse

My dress is a green sparkly creation, featuring small sequinned flowers that hold deep personal significance. The flowers represent my late grandmother, who had a passion for fashion and flowers. It’s a way of honouring her memory and celebrating her love for style, while also keeping her spirit close to me while on my special day (My Matric Dance). The design itself is crafted to enhance and complement my natural features, with a particular focus on accentuating my waist. The shimmering fabric and floral embellishments create a dynamic balance between elegance and personal meaning, ensuring that the dress not only flatters my figure but also tells a story of love, remembrance, and beauty My Dressmaker, Marvin and I worked hard to find a style that embodies a timeless, elegant and unique dress shape while still extenuating my figure. The choice of having full-length gown was crafted to ensure it looked like figure-hugging silhouette that accentuates curves, while the deep V-neckline adds a touch of sophistication and allure. Covered in shimmering sequins, the dress catches the light from every angle, giving it a radiant, almost ethereal glow, which is exactly like i wanted to embody a Goddess like look. The sleeveless design keeps the look sleek and modern, complemented by the minimal yet refined jewellery.

Wat was jou inspirasie vir jou matriekafskeidrok?

For my matric dance dress, I drew inspiration from the allure and power of an Egyptian goddess, specifically Cleopatra. I wanted to embody her legendary beauty, strength, and elegance in a modern way. The shimmering gold refection of the dress aided to reflect Cleopatra’s association with opulence and royalty, as gold was a symbol of the divine in ancient Egypt. The fitted silhouette, with its deep V-neckline, echoes the bold, confident style Cleopatra was known for, exuding both sophistication and power. The sequin detail represents the richness and attention to adornment that Cleopatra herself embraced, capturing the essence of an Egyptian goddess while celebrating the milestone of my graduation with a timeless, regal look. Altogether, the dress is designed to exude confidence, beauty, and strength, much like Cleopatra herself.

Wat was jou gunsteling deel van jou matriekafskeidrok?

My favourite part of my matric graduation dress was how it combined comfort with elegance, allowing me to feel at ease while fully embracing its beauty inside and out. The dress didn’t just look stunning; it felt amazing to wear, which made the experience even more special. I also loved the small personal touches, like the sequinned flowers details subtly woven into the design, which made the dress feel uniquely mine. The most rewarding part, though, was how many people immediately recognised my vision of an Egyptian goddess—just as I had imagined it—without me even having to explain. It was incredible to know that the essence of Cleopatra I wanted to convey came through so clearly to others. Overall I truly loved my dress, and even looking at it months after my Matric dance, i feel the love and beauty radiating off my dress. As it was such a special process to create.
